NUR 480 focuses on the management functions and leadership roles of a professional nurse and that nurse’s professional socialization within a healthcare organization as it relates to patient care. Various modes of inquiry, including nursing process, problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking are emphasized. 

The course is designed to assist the student in refining the roles and responsibilities of a professional nurse as a leader and change agent in the provision of nursing care and its relation to the healthcare organization.

This course focuses on management of critical health states with an emphasis on individuals and families with complex health care problems in a critical care setting. It includes laboratory, clinical and simulation experiences.  Prerequisites:NUR 232,242,250,301,320 and 392.

This course is designed to provide the baccalaureate RN to BSN nursing student with an experiential, role expanding practicum. The course includes both a practicum experience, the development of a professional portfolio, and a health advocacy letter. These course experiences are to complement the content provided in NUR480, as the baccalaureate-nursing student magnifies their professional role to increase management and leadership characteristics.
